We're back in Kathmandu and I feel like I have survived a week long of Ice Road Truckers: Deadliest Roads Nepal...if you don't know what I am talking about, you can go to the website of the History Channel and look for IRT: Deadliest Roads India and you will know what I am talking about...everything you see in that TV series is actually true and I actually lived to talk about it...last week when we left for Pokhara, the traffic was incredible...a lot of trucks on the road...tons of car and buses on the road bringing people home for the Dashain Festival holiday...one thing you have to understand is that the roads are 2-lane highways with no shoulders...so when a truck, a bus or a car breaks down, it stops in the lane...so you might turn a bend and there would be a truck blocking your lane...or if it is blocking the other lane, then there is probably a car in your lane coming at you trying to make it around the broken truck...there is also no concept of passing zone...the road continuously snakes its way up and down the mountains...a 500 metre stretch of straight road is a rarity...so you pass when you think you're not going to get hit...absolute total chaos...on the way back today, we even saw a truck flipped up on its side in our lane...that was a sight...later we had a bus passing another bus coming at us...apparently you can squeeze 2 buses and 1 car on a 2-lane highway without shoulders...otherwise I wouldn't be able to write this note...
Some of you might know that I have been to India a number of times in the past and I have seen some crazy driving...but I had never had any experience driving in the mountains...the one thing I am grateful for is that we had the best driver in Nepal, Harkma from Yeti Travels...real smooth and not a risk taker...with a real quick reaction time...Harkma is a real nice guy who took real good care of us...we really enjoyed our week with him...tomorrow we fly to Bhutan...

Nous sommes de retour à Kathmandu et je me sent comme si j'avais survécu un épisode longue d'une semaine de Ice Road Truckers: Deadliest Roads Nepal... si vous ne savez pas de quoi je parle, vous pouvez aller sur le site Web du History Channel et chercher IRT: Deadliest Roads India et vous verrez que tout ce dont je parle se passe vraiment et j'ai en la preuve pour l'avoir vécu...la semaine dernière lorsque nous sommes dirigés vers Pokhara, la circulation routière était incroyable...trop de camions sur la route...des tonnes de voitures et des autobus à en plus finir, ramenant les gens à la maison pour le congé du Festival de Dashain...une chose que vous devez comprendre c'est que les routes ne sont qu'à 2 voies...et il n'y pas d'accotement...ainsi quand un camion, un autobus ou une voiture tombe en panne, ils s'arrêtent directement dans la voie...donc vous pourriez entrer dans une courbe et il y aurait un camion bloquant votre voie ou pire encore il pourrait bloquer l'autre voie et une voiture se trouverait dans votre voie en train de contourner le camion qui bloquait sa voie...il n'y a aussi aucun concept de zone de dépassement...la route serpente continuellement en montée ou en descente dans les montagnes...une ligne droite de 500 mètres est une rareté... donc vous dépassez quand vous pensez que vous n'allez pas vous faire frapper...le chaos absolu...aujourd'hui, nous avons même vu un camion sur son côté, dans notre voie...incroyable...plus tard nous avons rencontré un autobus qui dépassait un autre autobus... apparemment 2 autobus et 1 voiture ça passe sur une route à 2 voies sans chaussée...autrement je n'aurais pu écrire ce billet...
Certains d'entre vous savent que j'ai été en Inde plusieurs fois dans le passé et j'ai vu beaucoup de gens conduire en fou...mais je n'avais jamais eu l'expérience d'être en voiture dans les montagnes...une chose dont je suis très reconnaissant c'est que nous avions le meilleur conducteur au Népal, Harkma de Yeti Travels...pas un preneur de risque...avec un temps de réaction rapide...Harkma est très plaisant et il a pris très bien soin de nous...nous avons vraiment apprécié notre semaine avec lui...demain nous nous envolons vers le Bhoutan...
