If I just said "amazing" and stop there, it would be enough to describe what I saw this morning...The Tiger's Nest or Paro Taktsang monastery was built in 1692 in Paro...It sits on a cliff at 3,120 metres of altitude, 900 meters above the Paro valley...getting there was quite an experience...
I found out today that when it comes to horses, size does not matter...as I where about to get on the horse, I went for the biggest one and the lady pointed me to the smaller one of the two which apparently was the stronger one...once on the horse, and I think I was not that much smaller than it, we climbed the steep trail to get us to the cafeteria...yes, there is a cafeteria along the way...after reaching the cafeteria, we had to climb the rest by foot until we reached the stairs...then we had to negotiate 800 steps up and down to get to the monastery...and another 800 to get back...as you can't bring cameras in the monastery, I can only describe it as a very solemn site...it took us about 1 hour and 45 minutes to walk the whole way back...yes, the horses only bring us up...we have to walk the whole way down...it took 45 minutes to walk down the part that the horses had carried us on their back...those horses are something to see...I felt pretty bad for my horse, so I decided to pay 2 1/2 the going rate, because the horse really worked 2 1/2 times more carrying me than it would have had if he had carried the Sherpa...by the way...that Sherpa of mine, you would think she is used to climbing by foot...she was on the horse with the backpack...I'm telling you, something is wrong here...
What a way to finish your vacation...this is the last day in Bhutan...tomorrow we start our trek home by flying to Bangkok...Late Monday night, we will be flying to Vienna and then Frankfurt, to catch our flight for Ottawa...
Si je disais tout simplement "époustouflant" et j'arrêtais là, ça serait assez pour décrire ce que j'ai vu ce matin...la Tanière du Tigre ou le monastère Paro Taktsang a été construit en 1692 à Paro...il est assis sur une falaise à 3,120 mètres d'altitude, 900 mètres au-dessus de la vallée de Paro...s'y rendre est toute une expérience...
J'ai découvert aujourd'hui que quand on parle de chevaux, la taille n'importe pas...comme j'étais sur le point de monter sur mon cheval, je suis allé pour le plus gros et la dame m'a dirigé au plus petit des deux, qui était apparemment le plus fort...une fois sur le cheval et je pense que je n'étais pas beaucoup plus petit que lui, nous avons grimpé le sentier, une pente assez raide, pour nous rendre à la cafétéria...et oui, il y a une cafétéria en chemin...après avoir atteint la cafétéria, nous avons dû monter le reste à pied jusqu'à ce que nous atteignons les marches...alors nous avons dû négocier 800 marches en montant et en descendant pour négocier l'arrivée au monastère...et 800 marches pour retourner... comme on ne peut pas entrer dans le monastère avec des caméras, je peux seulement le décrire comme un site très solennel...il nous a fallu environ 1 heure et 45 minutes pour revenir à pied jusqu'au stationnement...et oui, les chevaux ne font que monter avec nous, on doit faire le trajet de retour à pied...on a pris 45 minutes pour descendre la partie que les chevaux nous avaient portés sur leur dos...ces chevaux sont quelque chose à voir...je me suis senti mal pour mon cheval, donc j'ai décidé de payer à 2 1/2 le taux en vigueur, parce que le cheval a vraiment travaillé 2 fois 1/2 de plus pour me porter qu'il aurait eu s'il avait porté le Sherpa...on penserait que le Sherpa serait habitué à grimper à pied...elle était sur le cheval avec le sac à dos...bizarre...
Quelle façon de terminer vos vacances... c'est notre dernière journée au Bhoutan...demain nous nous envolons vers Bangkok pour le voyage de retour...en fin de soirée lundi, nous partons pour Francfort par voie de Vienne...nous avons un vol direct de Francfort à Ottawa...
