Today was more of a leisure day...the day started with a morning tour of a historical Hutong...Hutongs are really neighbourhoods, but today in Beijing, they are really meant to refer to old traditional neighbourhoods...you can think of them as older types of traditional houses assembled in courtyards and joined together by narrow alleys. We visited a house inhabited by the 4th generation of the same family...the house itself had been built 300 years ago...while the houses are old and the original architecture has been maintained, all of the house have electricity and running water and most if not all are equipped with modern amenities like AC...the guide tour also took us to a few historical sites of Beijing...the Drum Tower and the Bell Tower are centuries old buildings that housed drums and a large bell used to signal information to the inhabitants of the city, like the time of night...
In the afternoon we went for a walk on a large pedestrian street...I even caught the sherpa drinking on the job...so much for the guilt expressed yesterday...in the evening, we went out for a great Hot Pot meal at a traditional restaurant...again, we were treated by our host who's a friend of the family...I want to take this opportunity to thank my sister-in-law for arranging for us to meet her friends while we were in town...I also want to thank her friends for taking time from their busy schedule to spend two beautiful evening with us...it has greatly enhanced our Beijing experience.
Aujourd'hui était plutôt une journée de repos et relaxation...la journée a débuté avec une visite guidée d'un Hutong historique...les Hutongs sont vraiment des cartiers, mais aujourd'hui à Pékin, le Hutong réfère aux vieux cartiers traditionnels...vous pouvez imaginer un Hutong comme un assemblement de vieilles maisons traditionnelles et joint ensemble par des allées étroites...nous avons visité une maison habitée par la 4ème génération de la même famille...la maison elle, avait été construite il y a 300 ans...bien que les maisons soient vieilles et que l'architecture originale ait été conservée, toutes les maisons ont l'électricité et l'eau courante...et la plupart si pas toutes sont équipées d'agréments modernes comme l'air conditionné...durant la visite nous avons aussi fait escale à quelques sites historiques de Pékin...la Tour des Tambours et la Tour de la Cloche sont des structures vieilles de plusieurs siècles...les bâtiments abritent des tambours et une grande cloche qui ont été utilisés pour signaler de l'information aux habitants de la ville, comme le temps de nuit...
En après-midi nous avons fait une promenade sur une grande rue piétonne...j'ai même observé le Sherpa à boire sur la job...la culpabilité exprimée hier a vite disparu...en soirée, nous sommes sortis pour un super repas dans un restaurant traditionnel où le Hot Pot est la spécialité de la maison...viande et légumes cuisent dans un pot d'eau bouillante...de nouveau, nous avons été traités par notre hôte qui est un ami de la famille...je veux prendre cette occasion pour remercier ma belle-soeur pour avoir fait des arrangements pour que nous rencontrions ses amis tandis que nous étions en ville...je veux aussi remercier ses amis pour avoir pris du temps de leur calendrier occupé pour passer deux belle soirées avec nous et d'avoir grandement ajouté a notre expérience de Pékin...
